{Poppins Book Nook} Andrew Henry’s Meadow

It’s June and time for my Poppins Book Nook post!  This month we are focusing on the theme of the Great Outdoors!

This month we read the book Andrew Henry’s Meadow.

Andrew Henry is the middle child and he is usually left on his own while his siblings play.  He’s an inventor so he enjoys his time alone to create.  However, his family doesn’t appreciate his inventions so Andrew Henry runs away to a nearby meadow.  Many of the neighborhood children join him and he builds a giant tree house for everyone.

My kids enjoyed creating their own play space in our yard where they caught bugs and enjoyed picnic lunches (and don’t worry, they ate food and NOT the bugs!).

To celebrate our book theme we made our own little tree house out of cardboard and now the kids have a new “dollhouse” for play.  It’s a perfect way to enjoy the great outdoors while staying indoors on the hot summer afternoons.

I found the instructions from Family Fun Magazine.  Here’s how you can make your own!

And enjoy some pictures of ultimate treehouses.  Don’t you want to move in?

Be sure and visit all the wonderful hosts of the Poppins Book Nook!

  1. What fun! We spend a lot of time outdoors exploring, planting, bird watching, frog finding, and bug watching. My husband has plans to build a tree house with our kids this year. We'll see if it makes the cut with all the other things needing doing, but I sure hope they do get around to it!

  2. The tree house project turned out great! What a wonderful idea for a fun diy toy.

Thank you for helping to bring a spoonful of reading fun to the Poppins Book Nook this month!

  3. Thank you! We had so much fun with it! It's still a favorite play thing and the book is a cute story. It was something a little different on our shelves and we've enjoyed it.
