{Crew Review} Egglo Entertainment

I love Easter but we don’t enjoy Easter egg hunts because we have some food allergic little people who can’t touch eggs or eat the candy that is typically stuffed in the eggs.  So, we’re always looking for ways to make Easter fun and special despite our allergies.  My kids were thrilled to have their very own special Easter egg hunt with glow in the dark eggs from Egglo Entertainment

What is it?
Egglo Entertainment, LLC has created glowing Easter eggs for a unique glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt experience that emphasizes the light of Christ and focuses on the truth of the Biblical Easter story.   The product was designed to help children visualize that Jesus is the light of the world and a light that shines even in darkness.

Egglo Entertainment has created multiple products that reinforce the Easter story through a nighttime egg hunt, a DVD, a story book, Scripture scrolls, and a curriculum to help plan a Christ-centered egg hunt event.

The program is designed to work well for churches or large groups planning an egg hunt or for individuals and families who want to use the eggs and teaching tools as part of their Easter celebration.  The products are geared for children of any age, but specifically those who are between 4 and 13.

How did we use this product?
We received several products from Egglo:
Glow in the Dark Egglo Eggs
The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure book
The Egg-cellent Adventure Audio book
Egglo Treasures Scripture Scrolls
The Egg-cellent Easter Adventure Program Guide Curriculum

I read through the program guide and previewed the story book while I planned our egg hunt.  I found the program guide to be a helpful tool for a group that was planning a hunt.  Since ours was going to be our family only, many of the ideas did not apply to me.  The guide had tips for planning and preparing for the event, decorating, choosing a snack (with a note to be aware of allergies – love that!), and presenting a devotion before the hunt.  Various printables and printable invitations were also included.
The guide also contained object lessons, devotions, and questions with answers to encourage discussion and participation.  I used these aspects in our family time to discuss the Easter story with my children.

We chose to have a family egg hunt one evening.  I charged our 12 glow-in-the-dark eggs under a bright lamp for about an hour before hiding them in a dark room.  I stuffed each egg with a small Scripture scroll (each plastic scroll unrolls to contain a different short Scripture or Scripture excerpt).  The kids were very excited to look for the eggs and they did glow well in the dark.  We repeated our hunt multiple times that evening.  The eggs glow for about an hour before they need to be recharged.

We saved the Easter Adventure book for the next day because we were so excited to do our hunt right away.  So, we read the book the next day as a family (and had many more egg hunts in the following days).  The book is about a family who is planning to have an Easter egg hunt at night but the children are having a difficult time waiting until it’s time to begin.  They go to the attic in search of a game to play but instead find glowing egg that contains Scripture.  As they all touch the egg, they are transported on an adventure Easter egg hunt that takes them to places like Egypt and Easter Island.  In each place they find more eggs and learn more Scriptures about being humble, being kind, being courageous, and being wise.  The children continue their adventure until they reach the treasure at the end of the hunt – the cross of Christ – as they are reminded of the reason for Easter.

What did we think?
Some of the eggs have a cross outline and my kids loved finding the special eggs with the cross.

I appreciated the Scripture scrolls as a unique way to stuff the eggs rather than using candy.  My kids enjoyed finding out which verse they had found and reading them together.

I was worried about charging my eggs indoors rather than outside (which is recommended) but I thought they glowed very well.  When they are charged in the sunlight it is easier to differentiate between the colors.  Charging them in the lamp light made the colors appear similar.  The eggs are not as bright as a glow stick would be but they were still very visible in the dark.  I also loved that they are rechargeable and can be used again and again.

And maybe it’s just me but it took me a while to figure out how to snap the eggs together as it is not clear which part of the egg is the bottom and which part is the top.  A few times I realized that I was trying to snap two top pieces together.  I had to really look at the edge of each egg to see if it had an outer lip or inner lip in trying to fit them together.  But once they were snapped shut they stayed together well.

While the story in the book was interesting and adventuresome, it was more about the various Scriptures and character qualities than it was specifically about Easter.  In that way, it was not quite what I expected from an Easter resource.  I loved the focus on Scripture and the emphasis on good character.  However, the story was a little long for my younger ones.

My Wrap Up!
We have children with food allergies and regular Easter egg hunts are not safe for us.  We have to use plastic eggs rather than real eggs for our hunts.  In addition, my children cannot eat the candy that is typically stuffed inside the eggs.  I loved having an alternative with safe eggs and stuffing them with Scripture and other safe items.  The kids were excited to have their very own special, unique hunt that was safe for our whole family.

Also, we try to avoid the “Easter bunny” and make the egg hunts simply a fun activity for the day and not the focal point.  I really enjoyed that this product was able to transform our fun activity and make it Christ-centered.  We found the eggs to be very fun and enjoyed the lesson and illustration that Jesus is the light of the world.  While we did enjoy the various products, the eggs and the Scripture scrolls were our favorite parts.
