Have you seen all the thankfulness posts blowing up your Facebook feed? I have! People are thankful for their families, their homes, their jobs, and even their pets. Every time I check Facebook I see another one. Well, I didn’t participate and list all the things I have to be thankful for. I would have a really long list if I tried. So instead, I thought I would just share a very abbreviated list of some of the offbeat things that I’m thankful for.
What is this homeschool mom thankful for?
- Uninterrupted bathroom breaks – oh those are so very rare!
- Fuzzy socks for those chilly mornings
- Robes with pockets so I can carry around pencils, tape, scissors, and crayons
- Meals that make enough leftovers for lunch the next day
- Curriculum that is somewhat scripted for those days when I’ve left my brain in bed
- The secret stash of chocolate chips (that are just for me) hiding on the high shelf in my pantry
- Retail therapy at Rainbow Resource Center
- All the fun and thoughtful comments on my blog
- Curricula sales
- Washable paints
- “Educational” DVD’s and computer programs
- Audio books
- The times my hubby gives me to lesson plan and catch up on school things
- The rare times when all of my children are napping at the same time
- Baby gates
- Bubble baths
- Adult conversation
- My one child who can read on her own – I can’t wait to have more of those
- Paper plates
- The days that I can sneak off to bed early
- Silence – the real kind that you can trust, not the kind when your toddler is destroying the house
- E-books that I can print and print and print
- Yoga pants
- Bean bag chairs
- Books
- Books
- Books (yes, I’m really thankful for that one……)
- Mechanical pencils – pencil shavings, no thank you!
- Binders with pretty covers
- Protein shakes – or I might never get to eat!
- Children who are potty trained
- An abacus – mommy needs math help sometimes too
- Quick freezer meals
- Work out DVD’s – who has time to drive to the gym?
- A structured school schedule that actually works
- Late night pizza dates with my hubby
- Dry erase boards with markers in every color of the rainbow
- Hydrogen peroxide – that stuff will take ANYTHING out of anything!
- Art DVD’s – break time for me!
- My minivan – hello cup holders
- The UPS guy – bring me curriculum!
- Being able to overhear all the lovely preschool and toddler conversations at my house
- The ability to learn alongside my children
But most of all I’m thankful for all the time that I get to spend with my family – we make memories, I can disciple their hearts, we can snuggle and read, we can play, and we can just BE together. I love this time and know that I can never get it back!
