Free Language Arts/Lit Program for 1st Grade

We recently reviewed some products from Hewitt Homeschooling.  This was a new company that I discovered through being part of the crew.  They have some amazing resources and I have been interested in their Lightning Lit programs-which unfortunately are all for students older than my crew.  Guess what?  They are developing a program for the younger crowd!  They are posting 4 weeks of lessons at a time on their website for free.  They ask that if you use the program, that you give them feedback as they continue to develop the curriculum.

Now, we already use Phonics Road, which I love.  But I seem to have a terrible problem with just using 1 curriculum per subject.  I love to supplement and try new things.  So, I think we might have to try this one out.  Curly enjoys language arts and I don’t think I’ll hear any complaints from her about adding a little extra in that category.

Hewitt Homeschool is providing their new Lightning Literature program for 1st grade for free.  They only ask that if you use the program, you send your comments and suggestions to them.  Each month, they will post 4 weeks of material for you to use.

The link to the first grade materials is here.  If you use the program with us, I’d love to know what you think as you go along.  I’m excited to provide feedback to the publisher as they develop their program.

  1. It looks really good. I've got K and 2nd next year but might try it anyway with them both since my K'er is a little advanced and the 2nd grader decidedly not advanced…

  2. You'll have to let me know if you try it! I think it looks like fun and will be worth a try. I've heard wonderful things about their Lightning Lit programs for older students.
