History with Living Books

I think history is one of my favorite subjects to teach.  I love it because we do lots and lots and lots of reading!!!  We love to use living books for our history studies.

My favorite history resource is……….Tapestry of Grace!  I love the booklists, the project ideas, the vocabulary, and the maps.

For history time, we snuggle in our bean bag chairs to read and then discuss.  I enjoy seeing my kids make connections to historical time periods as we read through historical fiction.  These books inspire further research and hands-on projects.

With the young ages of my kids, history is not a necessity but the read aloud time has been priceless.

Because we love to read, sometimes I even supplement our reading with book ideas from the following places:
A Book in Time
Winter Promise
Heart of Dakota
Veritas Press
My Father’s World

And my kids also enjoy the BBC Kids History Website

Check out all the history resources from the Crew bloggers.  Link gos live on April 3.

  1. Thanks for the link to the BBC Kids History website! I'm always on the look out for more history sites. Will have to check out a few of your other suggestions for books. Can never have enough books 😉
